PRR 2239, EF-22, 1964 |
Description: |
WIL-ALT-64. Here is an original photo that I took while riding in a Pennsylvania Railroad passenger train from Harrisburg to Altoona on 3 July 1964. Partially visible here (R to L) are PRR engines #2239 and #2245. Both are EF-22's built by GM-EMD in May of 1963 and rated at 2,250 horsepower each. They're pulling an eastbound merchandise freight train near Perdix, Pennsylvania. Blue Mountain's in the distance. (That train is moving left to right; my train is moving right to left.) |

PRR 2245, EF-22, 1965 |
Description: |
Pinecroft. Here is an original photo that I took near Pinecroft, Pennsylvania, on 26 June 1965. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #2245, #2350, and #2282. All were built by GM-EMD. #2245 is an EF-22 built in May of 1963 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. #2350 and #2282 are EF-25's rated at 2,500 horsepower each; #2350 was built in February of 1965, but #2282 was built in June of 1964. They're pulling a 95-car ore train (with N-8 cabin car #478170) to Altoona and points West. The roadway paralleling the tracks was once the right-of-way for the Altoona & Logan Valley Electric Railway's double-tracked line linking Tyrone and Altoona. The line was partially washed-out in the great St. Patrick's Day Floods of 1936 and never rebuilt. Photo taken from the Riggle's Gap Bridge. |
