PRR 2278, EF-25, 1964 |
| Description: |
WIL-ALT-64. Here is an original photo that I took while riding in a Pennsylvania Railroad passenger train from Harrisburg to Altoona on 3 July 1964. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #2278, #2273, and an another unit whose road number is not recorded. All were built by GM-EMD. #2278 and #2273 are EF-25's and rated at 2,500 horsepower each; #2278 was built in June of 1964, while #2273 was built one month earlier. They're pulling an eastbound mineral train near Lewistown, Pennsylvania. Note that one of the four mainline tracks is in the process of being torn-up and removed. |

WIL-ALT-65. Here is an original photo that I took during a trip on Pennsylvania Railroad passenger trains from Wilmington to Altoona during August of 1965. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #2278, #2403, #2425, and another unit whose number is not recorded. #2278 is an EF-25 built by EMD in 1965 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. #2403 is an AF-24 built by the American Locomotive Company in 1962 and rated at 2,400 horsepower. #2425 is an AF-25 built by the American Locomotive Company in 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. They are passing through the Altoona Passenger Station with a mixed-cargo freight train on their way to Enola and points East. Also visible (L to R) are two of the original PRR 12th Street Car Shop buildings and the PRR Test Plant building. |
