Description:  A CN local parallels Union St. and approaches the Main St. overpass as it heads north at the north end of the former SOO yard at Neenah, WI, on 6 Jun. '20. The parking lot to the left of the train was the site of the WC (later SOO) depot, built on the north side of Sherry St. on the east side of the tracks in 1891. It replaced the ca. 1881 depot that stood at the west end of Wisconsin Ave. The Sherry St. depot was demolished ca. 1955 when a new depot was built between Main St. and N. Lake St. on the west leg of the wye, about 850 ft. to the northwest. The historic Murer House, 432 Sherry St., is partially visible above the locomotive's cab. It was built by Felix Murer in 1892 and is currently home to Sherry Town Station. The area between the tracks and Union St., from Main St. to Monroe St., used to be the yard. I don't know when the current, significantly larger yard (extending southwestward from Winneconne Ave.) was built, but a map from 1909 shows the yard still here.

Description:  A CN local traverses the west leg of the wye and passes the Main St. overpass as it heads northwest at the north end of the former SOO yard at Neenah, WI, on 6 Jun. '20. Local had one locomotive, IC 9568, with some unique, expedient hand-stenciling. The area between the tracks and Union St., from Main St. to Monroe St., used to be the yard. I don't know when the current, significantly larger yard (extending southwestward from Winneconne Ave.) was built, but a map from 1909 shows the yard still here. In the background, beyond the north leg of the wye, lies Arrowhead Park, a closed paper sludge landfill. Before the landfill was opened in the '50s, the south shore of Little Lake Butte des Morts came right up to the north leg of the wye. A large quantity of fill is being added to the eastern half of the park, in preparation of future improvements. The Fox Valley Energy Center (formerly Minergy Fox Valley Glass Aggregate Plant) dominated the eastern half of the landfill/park from its opening in Jan. '98 until demolition was completed in the spring of '16.

A remnant of the former C&NW main line, now relegated to a passing siding, runs parallel along the other side of the train.

I don't know when the current, significantly larger yard (extending southwestward from Winneconne Ave.) was built. A 1909 map shows the yard still here, a 1936 map depicts both the old and new yards.
