With its number lined out and sitting on a yard siding, New York Central 0-8-0 #8014 is awaiting its final fate. Lima built this heavy duty 0-8-0 yard switcher in April of 1937 originally as Pittsburgh & Lake Erie #8014 (serial #7685, class U-3k). It was renumbered later to NYC #8014. The loco served for only 22 years before being retired in June of 1957 and sold for scrap in August of 1959 to the David H. Joseph Co. This probably was the last photo of the loco ever taken as its fate was sealed. Original specs - 52" drivers, 190 psi boiler pressure, 25x28" cylinders, engine wt of 232,500 lb and tractive force of 54,351 lb. No location or photographer was given for this photo. |
