Alco-Schenectady built this Mikado in July of 1924 as NYC 2-8-2 #340 (serial #65582). In 1930, the loco was sent to the Michigan Central roster and then back to the NYC roster in 1936. A booster was added at that time. After nearly 28 years of combined service, the loco was retired in July of 1952 and sold for scrap by December of 1952. Original specs - class H-10b, 63" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 28x30" cylinders, engine wt of 337,000 lb and tractive force of 63,470 lb. This is an ALCo-Schenectady builder photo. |
