This "high stepping" 4-4-2 steam locomotive was called by the CNW either a "Northwestern" or "D's" afteer its class D rating instead of the more common "Atlantic" type steam loco. Before Schenectady ahd officially joined ALCo, it built this loco in April fo 1901 as Chicago & North Western 4-4-2 #1022 (serial #5841). Sometime in its life, CNW 4-4-2 #1022 was rebuilt with the dirving wheels going from 80" to 81" and it was also superheated at the time. The loco was last on the CNW roster in Januaary of 1947, but presudmedly scrapped after that date. Rebuilt specs -class D, massive 81" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 20x26" cylinders, engine wt of 158,000 lb and tractive force of only 25,700 lb. No photograpehr was listed for the photo and this was marked as a reprint made in 4/26/1967. |
