12th Street. Here is the first of five successive original photos that I took at the Passenger Station in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in March of 1966. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #5842, a unit whose road number is not recorded, and #5760. All were built by GM-EMD. #5842 is an EP-20 built in August of 1947 and rated at 2,000 horsepower, while #5760 is an EP-22 built in November of 1952 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. They're pulling a westbound passenger train under the new 12th Street Footbridge and are about to stop at the Station. Both engine and train crews are changed during the stop, and passengers are discharged and boarded. |
