PRR 9642, EF-15A, 1965 |
| Description: |
17th Street. Here is an original photo that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in August of 1965. Shown here (L to R) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9642 and two more units whose road numbers are not recorded. All were built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. #9642 is an EF-15A built in March of 1950 and retired in August of 1966 after just 16 years of revenue service. In this context, they've just come down the eastern slope of the Allegheny Mountains with a fully-loaded mineral train, and are now passing ALTO Tower on their way to the Eastbound Receiving Yards in Altoona. |
