MILW 4-6-0 #1062 - Milwaukee Road |
| Description: |
According to the Baldwin records, this loco was scrapped in December of 1953 but this photo shows it was still around in January of 1954. This may have been the last photo of it before the scrapper's torch hit it. Originally built by Baldwin in September of 1902 as CM&StP 4-6-0 #410 (serial #20929, class B4), the Vauclain compound ten wheeler was renumbered several times during its service. Starting in September of 1907, it was renumbered to #1760 > in September of 1912 to #4360 > in January of 1916, it was rebuilt to a simple loco and renumbered #2910 > in November of 1920 to #2879 > finally in July of 1938 it was last renumbered to MILW #1062. The loco lasted until December of 1953 before being scrapped after 51 years of service to the Milwaukee Road. This is a Guhr photo now in my rr collection. |
