Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad SD9 333 and 326 at Palmer Lake, Colorado on July 30, 1960, photographer unknown, print by Tom Klinger, Chuck Zeiler collection. Number 333 was built in March 1954 ( c/n 18992 ) on EMD Order 5313. It became BN 6135, and later, BNSF 6135. The CB&Q acquired a total of 80 SD9's built on four orders ( Order 5313 for 20 units numbered 325-344, Order 5399 for 30 units numbered 345-374, Order 5547 for 10 units numbered 430-439, and Order 5549 for 20 units numbered 440-459 ). In addition, subsidiary Colorado & Southern acquired 23 SD9's on two orders. I can only guess this was a extra train, likely a Boy Scout Special. |
