Pullman WOODLAND
Title:  Pullman WOODLAND
Description:  Built in 1930 by Pullman in Lot #6360 to Plan #3410B as a 12S-1DR sleeper, 1 of 9 such cars built in that Lot. 6 of these 9 cars were built for UP's PORTLAND LIMITED, including the WOODLAND. The other 3 cars were built for the CAPITOL LIMITED. At the 12/31/1948 divestiture, UP acquired 5 of the PORTLAND LIMITED cars; the WOODLAND was retained by Pullman. Pullman sold the WOODLAND to John W. "Jack" Ferris' Private Railroad Cars, Incorporated in October 1965. The Oregon, Pacific & Eastern RR in Roseburg, OR, later acquired the WOODLAND, and it was later resold to the Galveston RR Museum. Iowa Pacific acquired the WOODLAND from Galveston. Pullman WOODLAND
Title:  Pullman WOODLAND
Description:  Built in 1930 by Pullman in Lot #6360 to Plan #3410B as a 12S-1DR sleeper, 1 of 9 such cars built in that Lot. 6 of these 9 cars were built for UP's PORTLAND LIMITED, including the WOODLAND. The other 3 cars were built for the CAPITOL LIMITED. At the 12/31/1948 divestiture, UP acquired 5 of the PORTLAND LIMITED cars; the WOODLAND was retained by Pullman. Description:  Built in 1929 by Pullman in Lot #6274 to Plan #3989A as 8S sleeper-buffet solarium lounge observation COUNTRY CLUB, 1 of 15 such cars built in that Lot. 10 of the 15 cars (including the COUNTRY CLUB) were built for the PRR, 3 cars were built for the Erie, and 2 cars were built for the Rock Island. In May 1940, the COUNTRY CLUB was renamed to ANTHRACITE CLUB. In December 1941 and January 1942, 6 of the PRR cars were changed to Plan #3989U, including the ANTHRACITE CLUB. At the 12/31/1948 Pullman divestiture, PRR acquired their 10 cars from this Lot (as #8620-#8629), the 3 cars built for the Erie were acquired by the B&O, and the 2 cars built for the CRI&P were acquired by the SP&S. In 1957-1958, PRR withdrew these 10 cars from revenue service, and 9 of the 10 were subsequently converted to MofW bunk cars; the ANTHRACITE CLUB as #492383. The car was later sold to private ownership as PAPX #492383, and was listed for sale on Ozark Mountain Railcar in circa 2009. It was subsequently acquired by Iowa Pacific as the COUNTRY CLUB. Besides the COUNTRY CLUB, there are 3 other PRR cars from this Lot which are known to be extant: #8629 UNIVERSITY CLUB is also owned by Iowa Pacific as SLRG #9170, #8627 TRAFFIC CLUB was formerly owned by George Hart and is currently stored in Jim Thorpe, PA, and #8628 UNION LEAGUE CLUB is owned by the Horseshoe Curve Chapter NRHS and located at the Railroader's Memorial Museum in Altoona. Description:  Built in 1926 by Pullman in Lot #4974 to Plan #3523A as 6C-3DR sleeper GLEN SUMMIT, 1 of 20 such cars built in that Lot, all for the general service pool. Between August and November 1931, 8 of these 20 cars were changed to Plan #3523F, including the GLEN SUMMIT. Of these 20 cars, only 5 were sold at the 12/31/1948 divestiture to the railroads: GLEN TORRIDON to L&N; GLEN MORISTON and GLEN TARSAN to SP as #8457 and #8459; and GLEN STRAE and GLEN SUMMIT to SOU as #2522 and #2523. The other 15 cars were retained by Pullman until sold to private ownership (the GLEN SADDELL) or otherwise scrapped. GLEN SUMMIT later went to the Virginia Museum of Transportation, then to Mid-America Locomotive & Car Repair in Evansville, IN, and was acquired circa 2012 by Iowa Pacific. The GLEN SUMMIT is 1 of 2 surviving cars from Lot #4974; the other car is the previously mentioned GLEN SADDELL, sold in 1967 to Ruben Darby, later to the Adirondack RY Co./Adirondack Scenic, then to Remsen Development Corp. Description:  Built in 1929 by Pullman in Lot #6217 to Plan #3975C as the PALM LANE, a 3C-1DR sleeper-buffet lounge solarium observation, 1 of 8 such cars built in that Lot. 4 of these cars were built for the DIXIE FLYER with DIXIE-series names and delivered in late December 1928. The other 4 cars were built for the SEMINOLE LIMITED with PALM-series names and delivered in January 1929. One car, the PALM CITY, was wrecked in January 1947 at Perham, MN, on the NP. At the 12/31/1948 divestiture, 6 of these cars were sold to the PRR in the #854x-series. The PALM LANE was retained by Pullman until sold in August 1956 to James E. Strates Shows as the #2 SYRACUSE (1st). Strates later retired the car, and it went to the Central New York Chapter NRHS. In January 2013, the Chapter leased the SYRACUSE to Iowa Pacific on a long-term basis, and in return, IP is leasing a D&RGW business car to the Chapter, which has been put on display in place of the SYRACUSE.
