PCS 6 |
| Description: |
Office car PCS 6 had been built by the Pullman Car & Manufacturing Co. in January 1928 as Boston & Albany 99. It was one of six office cars built that year by PC&M for the New York Central System, and it was renumbered NYC 6 in May 1936. The car was assigned Penn Central number 6 with the creation of PC on 1 February 1968; but it didn’t last long and was retired on 4 August 1969. (PC subsequently had two more office cars numbered 6.) It was acquired by Knoxville scrap dealer David Witherspoon, and here it was arriving in New Orleans on a special train from Knoxville for the Tennessee-Air Force SUGAR BOWL, which was played the next day. The car was eventually purchased by someone in the New Orleans area, and it was still there in 2020, albeit in a very derelict condition. I don’t know what PCS stood for. |
