Description:  CB&Q XM-12 10381, Cicero, Illinois, October, 1979, photo by Chuck Zeiler. From the book, "CB&Q Color Guide To Freight And Passenger Equipment", by Michael J. Spoor: "In March 1967, Havelock, using many of the same components that went into the XM-7's, constructed # 10380-10399, Class XM-12. These cars also had an inside length of 60'5" but capacity dropped to 6,000 cu.ft. because the vertical ribs were on the interior of the cars. Like the XM-7's, two 8' sliding doors and Hydra Cushion underframes were installed". Original doors would have had one white stripe running from the lower left to upper right across both doors. This indicated that the car was equipped with Evans DF2 belt rails. All 20 cars were originally assigned to the Pontiac Motor Division, Pontiac, Michigan.

CB&Q XAP-2 15004
Title:  CB&Q XAP-2 15004
Description:  CB&Q XAP-2 15004 at Cicero, Illinois on an unknown day in November 1979, photo by Chuck Zeiler. According to the book, CB&Q Color Guide To Freight and Passenger Equipment, by Michael J. Spoor, Thrall delivered 15 Hy-Cube auto parts boxcars to the Burlington in September 1964 which were numbered 15000-15014 and designated XAP-2. They had an inside length of 86'6" and all came with Keystone cushion underframes, roofwalks, and full ladders. All of the cars in this group were dedicated to Ford Motor Company service, which required the double plug door arrangement that provided a 20' door opening. The circle to the left of the reporting marks reads: GSC CTR AT CHGO 8-7-68. It was reweighed CB 8 78. It is also stencilled REPAIR CAR POOL. Looks like it's in need of a coupler repair. This series of cars were assigned BN #'s 395000-395013, apparently one car did not make it.

CB&Q 15103
Title:  CB&Q 15103
Description:  CB&Q 15103 at Galesburg, Illinois on June 10, 1979, Kodachrome by Gib Allbach, Chuck Zeiler collection. I don't know much about this car, the CB&Q had eight of them, #'s 15100-15107, later becoming BN 395050-395057. Generally, these cars were ordered for and assigned to a specific customer, and even the doors were ordered to be spaced according to the customer's loading dock door spacing.

CB&Q XM-32B 17227
Title:  CB&Q XM-32B 17227
Description:  CB&Q XM-32B 17227 at Cicero, Illinois on an unknown day in November 1979, photo by Chuck Zeiler. Burlington's Havelock, Nebraska shops built 1,900 class XM32B boxcars beginning in 1950, with 1,400 going to the CB&Q in the 17000-18399 number series, 250 went to the C&S in the 1000-1249 series, and 250 went to the FW&D in the 8501-8750 series. All 1,900 were fitted with a six-foot improved Youngstown corrugated door. When outshopped all except the C&S cars were painted in the then-standard mineral red with the slogans "Everywhere West" on one side (brake wheel to the left) and "Way Of The Zephyrs" on the other side (brake wheel to the right). The C&S cars were painted the same without slogans applied. The car pictured likely was shopped sometime after mid-1968 but before the March 2, 1970 merger. The idea was to paint in the word NORTHERN once the merger was approved. However, by the merger date, the BN letter font changed slightly and none of the repainted CB&Q cars had NORTHERN applied.
