Derailment. Here is an original photo that I took at the site of a derailment in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 21 May 1965. Shown here at the right (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #9691 and #7206. Both were built by GM-EMD. #9691 is an EF-15A built as an EH-15 in April of 1949, rated at 1,500 horsepower, later regeared and reclassified as an EF-15A, and retired in February of 1967. #7206 is an EFS-17M built in November of 1957 and rated at 1,750 horsepower. They've just come down the Allegheny Mountains with a 60-car mixed-cargo freight train and are passing the derailment site with caution. The cabin car is #477382. Visible in the center is PRR steam-powered crane #490965. Visible at the left is one of the two derailed locomotives, PRR engine #8890 ~ an AS-10 built by the American Locomotive Company in November of 1950 and rated at 1,000 horsepower. In the distance (L to R) are the PRR's Test Plant Building and the 17th Street Bridge. (#6 of 14) |

Visible on the left is one of the two derailed locomotives, Pennsylvania Railroad engine #8890 ~ an AS-10 built by the American Locomotive Company in December of 1950 and rated at 1,000 horsepower. Visible in the center are the two PRR oil-fired, steam-powered cranes working on one of the derailed cars. In the distance (L to R) are the PRR's Test Plant Building and the 17th Street Bridge.
