PRR 9694, EH-15, 1953 |
| Description: |
BYC. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Fred R. Kern that was taken just East of the Brick Yard Crossing in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 30 August 1953. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #9694 and two more "EH" Class units whose numbers are not recorded. All were built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. #9694 is an EH-15 built in April of 1949, and later regeared and reclassified as an EF-15A. Given the presence of N-8 caboose #478150, they are pushing a freight train up the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Gallitzin where they will uncouple and return to East Altoona for yet another run up "The Mountain." |
