SAR Sheathed Sleeper Coach (1st & 2nd Class, Side A)
Description:
This combined first and second class coach is painted in a MOW livery and has a sheathed wooden body with tapered roof peaks and a closed vestibule at each end. Side A is the comparJment side and its interior layout is, from the left, a vestibule, a toilet and a bedding cuboard with a door into the passage, two four-bed 1st Class compartments, two two-bed 1st Class coupes, three six-bed 2nd Class compartments, a three-bed 2nd Class coupe. a toilet and a bedding cuboard with a door into the passage, and a vestibule.
SAR Type D-32, Built 1939, Number range 1982 to 2077 and 8501 to 8605 (this one was renumbered to Z14239 in MOW service), Length over headstocks 63' 5", Height 12' 5 3/16", Width<9' 3", To seat 18 1st Class and 21 2nd Class, To sleep 12 1st Class and 21 2nd Class.
