| Horseshoe Curve-1961. Here is an original photo that I took at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 17 August 1961. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #5895, #5715, and #5868. All were built by GM-EMD. #5895 is an EP-22 constructed in March of 1951 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. #5715 is an EP-22 built in November of 1952 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. #5868 is an EP-20 constructed in April of 1949 and rated at 2,000 horsepower. In this context, they're pulling a mail & express train around the Curve and up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. |
