PRR 2424, AF-25, #2 of 2, 1965
Station. Here is the second of two successive original photos that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on the afternoon of 11 December 1965. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #2424, an unidentified unit, #2243, and #2286. #2424 is an AF-25 built by the American Locomotive Company in February of 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. #2243 is an EF-22 built by GM-EMD in May of 1963 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. #2286 is an EF-25 built by GM-EMD in June of 1964 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. They're heading East to Enola with a long string of brand-new PRR covered hopper cars. The train three tracks over is the mail & express train powered by PRR engine #5900; it's stopped under the 12th Street Footbridge. Also visible are the two-story Railway Express Office, PRR ES-10 switcher #9174, the 7th Street Bridge, as well as Brush Mountain in the distance.
