Sunday. Here is an original photo that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 2 May 1965. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #6309, #5861, #5860-B, and #5838. #6309 is an AF-27 built by the American Locomotive Company in March of 1965 and rated at 2,700 horsepower; it's the "helper" engine in this context. #5861 and #5860-B are EP-20's built by GM-EMD in February of 1948 and rated at 2,000 horsepower each. #5838 is an EP-22 built by GM-EMD in February of 1951 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. They're passing under the 24th Street Bridge with a 13-car passenger train on its way up the Allegheny Mountains to Pittsburgh and points West. Photo taken from the steps of SLOPE Tower. |
