| 8th Street. Here is an original photo that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 12 January 1964. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #7220, #9646, #9770-B, and #9492. #7220 is an EFS-17M built by GM-EMD in November of 1957 and rated at 1,750 horsepower. #9646 and #9770-B are EF-15A's built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each; #9646 was built in March of 1950 and #9770-B was built in January of 1951. #9492 is an FF-16 built by Fairbanks-Morse in October of 1950, rated at 1,600 horsepower, and retired in April of 1965. In this context, they're about to pass under the 8th Street Bridge in Juniata with a 100-car mixed-cargo freight train bound for Enola and points East. Brush Mountain dominates the distance. |
