8th Street. Here is an original photo that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 11 April 1965. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #8446, #9623, and #9556. #8446 is an AS-16AM built by the American Locomotive Company in October of 1952 and rated at 1,600 horsepower. #9623 is an AF-16 built by the American Locomotive Company in November of 1951, rated at 1,600 horsepower, and retired in January of 1967. #9556 is an EF-15 built by GM-EMD in September of 1948, rated at 1,500 horsepower, and retired in November of 1966. They're passing under the 8th Street Bridge into the Westbound Receiving Yard with an 85-car mixed-cargo freight train and N-8 cabin car #478021. Partially visible at the far left is ROSE Tower. |
