| 17th Street. Here is an original photo that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in August of 1965. Shown here (R to L) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6305, an unidentified ALCo diesel, two GM-EMD units, and engine #5878. #6305 is an AF-27 built by the American Locomotive Company in March of 1965 and rated at 2,700 horsepower. The two ALCo diesels are serving as front end helpers for this passenger train on its way up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin, where they'll be uncoupled and returned to Altoona for further assignment. #5878 is an EP-20 built by GM-EMD in April of 1949 and rated at 2,000 horsepower. Partly visible at the right is ALTO Tower. Photo taken from the pedestrian stairway connecting 10th Avenue with the 17th Street Bridge. |
