PRR 9739, BF-16, 1964
4th Street. Here is an original photo that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 23 September 1964. Prominent here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #9739, #2008-B, and #9701. #9739 and #2008-B are BF-16's built by Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton, rated at 1,600 horsepower each, and retired in July of 1966. #9739 was built in May of 1951, while #2008-B was built in October of 1951. #9701 is a BF-15A built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in April of 1950, rated at 1,500 horsepower, and retired in February of 1965. They're stopped just short of the 4th Street Footbridge, awaiting orders to pull a mixed-cargo freight train up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. Note that there are four unidentified switchers busily scurrying about the Yard. Also visible at the far right is Altoona's one-track loading and unloading facility for TrucTrain flatcars. Photo taken from the 4th Street Footbridge.
