| 24th Street. Here is an original photo that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 11 October 1963. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #9557, #9550-B, and #9788. All were built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. #9557 is an EF-15 built in September of 1948 and retired in May of 1966. #9550-B is an EF-15A built as an EH-15 in December of 1948, later regeared and reclassified as an EF-15A, and retired in September of 1965. #9778 is an EF-15A built in February of 1951. This A-B-A set is about to pass under the 24th Street Bridge with 154 empty hoppers on their way up the Allegheny Mountains to the coal mines of Western Pennsylvania. Wave to the Engineman! |
