PRR "World Famous Horseshoe Curve," Page 46, 1973
Here is page 46 of a 64-page booklet published by Harry P. Albrecht entitled "World Famous Horseshoe Curve, Altoona, Pennsylvania Railroad." It was first issued in September of 1973. Shown here is C.H. Ourand's pen-and-ink drawing called "Pennsylvania Railroad Shops. Altoona, Pa., 1852." At this point in history, the mainline from Harrisburg (to the right) paralleled 9th Avenue on its way to New Portage Junction in Duncansville (to the left) and the connection with the State's Allegheny Portage Railroad for the transit up and over the Allegheny Mountains ~ all of which ceased when the Horseshoe Curve was opened in 1854.
