PC 4278, E8A, 1968
Title:  PC 4278, E8A, 1968
Description:  Birmingham. Here is an original photo that I took near Union Furnace, Pennsylvania, in May of 1968. Shown here (R to L) is Penn Central engine #4278 and another unit whose road number is not recorded. Both are E8A's built by GM-EMD and rated at 2,250 horsepower each. #4278 was built as Pennsylvania Railroad number "5708" in September of 1952 and renumbered "4278" in preparation for the PRR-NYC merger. They're pulling a six-car eastbound passenger train from Altoona to Harrisburg. Photo taken where the three-track mainline bridges the Little Juniata River west of the stone quarry crossing, just off of State Route 453.
