This end is the Front of Chicago & North Western Railway RS11 4251 at Waseca, Minnesota on August 30, 1975, Kodachrome by J. H. Nixon, Chuck Zeiler collection. Number 4251 was built in March 1956 as Carolina & Northwestern (CRN) 11 (c/n 81464), the only RS11 on the Southern Railway system, of which CRN was a part. It was purchased second-hand by the C&NW from GE on December 22, 1973, retired August 9, 1983. It has one unusual feature that I cannot explain. Note the conical shape on the door just behind the radiator shutters. |
