Kern. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Fred R. Kern that was taken in Tyrone, Pennsylvania, c. 1954. Shown here (L to R) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5769 and another unit whose road number is not recorded. Both are EP-22's built by GM-EMD and rated at 2,250 horsepower each. #5769 was constructed in May of 1952. This A-A set is pulling a passenger train through the Tyrone Station on its way to Altoona and points West. The plume of white smoke visible at the right marks the location of the Westvaco paper mill in beautiful downtown Tyrone. Wave to the Fireman! |

Shown here (L to R) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5769 and two more units whose road numbers are not recorded. All were built by GM-EMD. #5769 is an EP-22 built in May of 1952 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. They're ready to depart the Station with a mail & express train bound for Pittsburgh and points East. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5769 and two more "EP" Class whose road numbers are not recorded. All were built by GM-EMD. #5769 is an EP-22 constructed in May of 1952 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. Also visible on the right is Gulf, Mobile, & Ohio Railroad's engine #1104, an RS-1 built by the American Locomotive Company in December of 1944, rated at 2,600 horsepower, and retired in April of 1975. |
