Title:  K-36 Head-On
Description:  Staring down the camera on the Durango turntable is K-36 2-8-2 480. 480 was built by Baldwin in 1925. It was retired in 1970 and sat in storage at Alamosa. In 1981, it was sold to the Durango & Silverton and was restored to operation.

D&RGW K-37 #499 on the deadline at the Alamosa roundhouse.
Title:  D&RGW K-37 #499 on the deadline at the Alamosa roundhouse.
Description:  Both K-36 #480 (Baldwin c/n 58559) and K-37 #499 (Baldwin c/n 20753) had been sitting on the deadline since 1970 when I found them alongside the Alamosa roundhouse. Both were sold in March 1981 to the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge, where #480 still steams. The nonoperational #499 is on display at Royal Gorge. [Date of photo approximate.]
