| Description: |
La Grange. Here is a photo by an unidentified photographer that was taken in La Grange, Illinois, in January of 1969. Prominent here is ex-Pennsylvania Railroad engine #7924, a BS-10A switcher built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as number "9263" in December of 1948, rated at 1,000 horsepower, and renumbered "7924" in preparation for the PRR-NYC merger. Partially visible at the left is ex-PRR engine #8220, an FS-10 switcher built by Fairbanks-Morse as number "9186" in June of 1948, rated at 1,000 horsepower, renumbered "8220" in preparation for the merger, and retired in June of 1967. In this context, both are parked at the GM-EMD plant as a trade-in for newer diesel-electric locomotives. Brad Mann Collection. |
