| Description: |
Horseshoe Curve-1966. Here is an original photo that I took at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, in mid-May of 1966. Shown here (L to R) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6037 and two more units whose road numbers are not recorded. #6037 is an EF-25A built by GM-EMD in May of 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. They're pushing a mixed-cargo freight train around the Curve and up the Allegeheny Mountains to Gallitzin, where they'll be uncoupled and returned to East Altoona for further assignment. Note "focal orange" N-5C cabin car #477839, as well as the old wooden Burlington Route boxcar. Partially visible at the right is four-track Signal Bridge 2418/7. Wave to the Fireman! |
