PRR 2240, EF-22, 1964 |
Description: |
17th Street. Here is an original photo that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 5 April 1964. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #2240, #2407, and #2402. #2240 is an EF-22 built by GM-EMD in May of 1963 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. #2407 and #2402 are AF-24's built by the American Locomotive Company and rated at 2,400 horsepower each. #2407 was built in October of 1962, while #2402 was built one month earlier. They're about to pass under Juniata's 17th Street Bridge with a 50-car iron-ore train. Visible on the left are the Westbound Classification Yard (with dozens of rusting freight and passenger cars) and HOMER Tower in the distance. |
