Description: |
Tipton. Here is an original photo that I took in Tipton, Pennsylvania, on 10 May 1964. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #9647, #9852-B, and #9544. All were built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. #9647 is an EF-15A built in March of 1950 and retired in July of 1965. #9852-B is an EFP-15 built in June of 1952 and retired in October of 1967. #9544 is an EF-15 built as an EH-15 in October of 1948, later regeared and reclassified as an EF-15, and retired in April of 1966. This A-B-A set is crossing Clearfield Avenue with a 160-car westbound mixed-cargo freight train along with N-8 cabin car #478189. |

PRR 9647, EF-15A, 1965 |
Description: |
Winter. Here is an original photo that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 3 January 1965. Shown here (F to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #9647, #9823, and #9668. All are EF-15A's built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. #9647 was built in March of 1950, #9823 in May 1951, and #9668 in March of 1949. This A-B-A set has just been uncoupled from a train they pulled into Altoona and are about to pass under the 7th Street Bridge ~ after which they'll proceed a short distance, stop, and then they'll be backed into the Locomotive Ready Tracks in East Altoona for further assignment. Visible at the right are some of the cars of a 40-car TrucTrain entering the Eastbound Receiving Yard. Note the three Railroaders in the cab of #9647. |
