Description: |
Dziobko. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by John Dziobko, Jr., that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 17 August 1957. Prominent here are two Pennsylvania Railroad diesel-electric locomotives: #9834 and #9547. Both were built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. #9834 is an EFP-15 constructed in April of 1952, while #9547 is an EF-15 built in November of 1948. Partially visible in the background is Juniata's 17th Street Bridge. ("PrrFan18n") |

PRR 9838, EF-15A, 1965 |
Description: |
Winter. Here is an original photo that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 3 January 1965. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #9838, #9844-B, and #9834. All are EFP-15's built by GM-EMD in 1952 and rated at 1,500 horsepower each; #9838 and #9834 were built in April while #9844-B was built one month later. This A-B-A set is pulling an 83-car train under the 4th Street Bridge on its way up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. Bringing-up the rear are "pushers" #8667, #8666, and #8669. Visible on the left are a telephone box and the venerable black Water Tower, the last vestige of the "Age of Steam" in this part of town. Partially visible in the distance is the wrought-iron 4th Street Footbridge. Wave to the Engineman! |
