PRR East Altoona Ready Tracks, 1965 |
| Description: |
17th Street. Here is an original photo that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 11 April 1965. Shown here are the Pennsylvania Railroad's Locomotive Ready Tracks near Juniata's 17th Street Bridge. Many makes and models are represented. Of the 35 or so locomotives visible here, the following are identifiable by road number. Starting from the bottom are PRR engines #8807, #8967, #8574, and #6307. #8807 is an FS-16M built by Fairbanks-Morse in April of 1952, rated at 1,600 horsepower, and retired in January of 1967. #8967 is a BS-16M built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in June of 1951 and rated at 1,600 horsepower. #8574 is an ES-15M built by GM-EMD in September of 1953 and rated at 1,500 horsepower. #6307 is an AF-27 built by the American Locomotive Company in March of 1965 and rated ate 2,700 horsepower. Visible in the right distance is a portion of the 8th Street Bridge. |
