| Description: |
24th Street. Here is an original photo that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 11 October 1963. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #8554 and #8563. Both are ES-15M's built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each; #8554 was built in August of 1953 while #8563 was built in September of 1953. They've just come down the eastern slope of the Allegheny Mountains with a 64-car fully-loaded mineral train, and are about to pass under 24th Street Bridge on their way to the Eastbound Receiving Yards in Altoona. |
