I was hoping to get a shot of a train at Danville which was the next town to the east. The small elevator there reminded me of the one I found along the UP at Calamus way at the beginning of the trip. But, it didnt look like things were going to pan out that way. So, into Burlington I went. Burlington was definitely a place I planned on stopping, as many of the old brick buildings surrounding the tracks from the CBQ days surround the tracks in downtown. A very urban scene compared to most of the farm towns I had been shooting in for the past few days. West Burlington is home to one of the US Armys ammunition depots. Usually places like these are served by rail on an as needed basis, but I was pretty shocked to see that there were some stored locomotives there as well. The one that caught my eye right away was the Willamette and Pacific Geep still in its former SP paint! Now how did that end up here of all places!? |
