Description:  Pic 7 - The long-awaited move of former Canadian National steam locomotive CN 6213 to its new home took place June 10, 2009. The 1942 Montreal-built locomotive had been on display at the Canadian National Exhibition grounds since soon after its donation to the city of Toronto in 1960. Built in August 1942 by the Montreal Locomotive Works, it was part of an order of 35 identical locomotives built for the CNR during World War!2. 6213 is a U-2-g Class Northern-type steam locomotive with a 4-8-4 wheel arrangement. The engine and tender are 95 feet long,<15 feet high and weigh 315 tons. Each of the eight driving wheels is six feet in diameter and weighs over three tons. The engine was capable of speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour. The tender behind tha locomotive is a Vanderbilt type, providing a capacity for 11,600 Imperial gallons of water and 18 tons of coal. No. 6213 was used to haul both passenger and freight trains well over a million miles during its 17-year career based in locations that ranged from Halifax to Saskatoon.

CN 4-8-4 #6213 - Canadian National
Title:  CN 4-8-4 #6213 - Canadian National
Description:  One of the first displays we saw at the Toronto Rwy Museum was this massive Canadian National 4-8-4 "Confederation" type steam loco #6213. The Milwaukee Locomotive Works built this 4-8-4 "Confederation" type steam locomotive in 1942. It served CN well until retirement in 1959. At the request of the City of Toronto government,[2] the locomotive was donated by CNR to the City of Toronto government in 1960 and put on static display at Exhibition Place. It was moved to the John Street Roundhouse in 2009 as one of the static displays. There is a chance that it might be restored to active service sometime in the future.
