Not sure the date on the back of this photo is accurate as it is only one year after the loco was built but the blue paint show a lot of wear already.Baldwin built this streamlined 4-6-4 Hudson as ATSF #3460 in 1937. Nicknamed "The Blue Goose" because it was painted originally in robins egg blue and silve, it was streamlined to haul "The Chief" from Chicago to La Junta, CO. After only 19 years of service, it was retired and sold for scrap to George T Cook Company on June 14,1956. Original specs - serial #62083, class 3460, 84" drivers, impressive 300 psi boiler pressure, 23.5x29.5' cylinders, engine wt of 420,400 lb and tractive force of 49,300 lb. No photographer or exact day in 1938 was given for the photo. |
