Here is page 96 of a 96-page monograph entitled "Power To Burn: Smoke, Steam, & Cinders" that was edited by James M. Shafer and published during 1976. Photo Caption: "AMTRAK's National Limited rounds the Horseshoe Curve, eastbound on its daily trip to New York. At the high peak of passenger traffic, more than 120 trains passed around the 'Curve,' east- and westbound." Amtrak engine #589 is an SDP40-F built by GM-EMD in May of 1974 and rated at 3,000 horsepower. |
