Description: |
4th Street. Here is an original telephoto view that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 11 September 1965. Shown here (L to R) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #2416 and two more units whose road numbers are not recorded. #2416 is an AF-25 built by the American Locomotive Company in October of 1964 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. They're idling-away, awaiting a new crew to run them up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. On the other side of the mainline tracks, two passenger cars await reconditioning. Photo taken from the 4th Street Footbridge. |

PRR 2416, AF-25, 1966 |
Description: |
Horseshoe Curve-1966. Here is an photo that I took at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, in May of 1966. Partially visible here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #2416, an AF-25 built by the American Locomotive Company in October of 1964 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. It's pulling a westbound mixed-cargo freight train, but is being passed by the train in the foreground. Note the Erie-Lackawanna Railroad highway trailer. (#5 of 39) |
