PRR 9700, BF-15A, 1964 |
| Description: |
8th Street. Here is an original photo that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 12 January 1964. Prominent here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #9700, #2014-B, #9700-B, and #2012. #9700 and #9700-B are BF-15A's built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in April of 1950, rated at 1,500 horsepower each, and retired in February and May of 1965 respectively. #2014-B and #2012 are BF-16's built by Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton in February of 1952, rated at 1,600 horsepower each, and both retired in January of 1967. In this context, this A-B-B-A set is about to pass under the 8th Street Bridge in Juniata with a 100-car coal train bound for Enola. Visible in the immediate background are at least eight cabin cars and PRR engine #7923, an ES-12 built by GM-EMD in November of 1957 and rated at 1,200 horsepower. Several ALCo road switchers are on the move and will soon pass the PRR's Erecting & Machine Shop at the far right. |
