PRR 7070, EFS-17M, 1964 |
| Description: |
4th Street. Here is the first of four successive original photos that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 15 August 1964. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #7070, #9648-B, and #2246. All were built by GM-EMD. #7070 is an EFS-17M built in October of 1956 and rated at 1,750 horsepower. #9648-B is an EF-15A built in February of 1950, rated at 1,500 horsepower, and retired in December of 1966. #2246 is an EF-22 built in May of 1963 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. In this context, they've pulled a train of empty hopper cars to a point midway between the 7th Street Bridge (not shown) and the 4th Street Footbridge (visible in the distance) ~ but they've stopped, pending orders to proceed up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. |

| Description: |
4th Street. Here is the third of four successive original photos that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 15 August 1964. Shown here are two Pennsylvania Railroad freight trains parked in the Altoona Yards, both awaiting orders to begin climbing the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. Also visible on the right are two passenger cars marshalled for reconditioning in the PRR's Passenger Car Shops behind them. Photo taken from the 4th Street Footbridge. |

PRR 2246, EF-25, 1966 |
| Description: |
Winter Day. Here is an original photo that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in February of 1966. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #2246, #2429, and another unit whose road number is not recorded. #2246 is an EF-25 built by GM-EMD in May of 1963 and rated at 2,500 horsepower, while #2429 is an AF-25 built by the American Locomotive Company in March of 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. They're about to pass under the 12th Street Footbridge with a mixed-cargo freight train on its way up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. The two-story gray building at the left is the Railway Express Office; two of the PRR's 12th Street Car Shop buildings are partially visible at the right. Visible in the distance is the 7th Street Bridge. |
