PRR 5631, AS-10AM, 1965
Title:  PRR 5631, AS-10AM, 1965
Description:  Derailment. Here is an original photo that I took at the site of a derailment in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 21 May 1965. Shown here (L to R) are the two derailed locomotives, Pennsylvania Railroad engines #5631 and #8890. Both were built by the American Locomotive Company and rated at 1,000 horsepower each. #5631 is an AS-10AM built in August of 1950 and #8890 is an AS-10 built in December of 1950. They were being towed in an eastbound freight train when they split a switch in the 14th Street Interlocking. Because the train was going fairly slow at the time of the derailment, there were no injuries. (#7 of 14)

PRR 8677, AS-18AM, 1965
Title:  PRR 8677, AS-18AM, 1965
Description:  Derailment. Here is an original photo that I took at the site of a derailment in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 21 May 1965. At the left is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #8677, an AS-18AM built by the American Locomotive Company in April of 1958 and rated at 1,800 horsepower. It's coupled to the "eastern" work train and steam-powered crane that are working on the derailed cars and locomotives of the eastbound freight train on the next track over. Visible in the center (L to R) are the two derailed locomotives, PRR engines #5631 and #8890. Both were built by the American Locomotive Company and rated at 1,000 horsepower each. #5631 is an AS-10AM built in August of 1950 and #8890 is an AS-10 built in December of 1950. At this point in the clean-up process, they remain coupled to a single box car: CGW 9166. Visible in the background are two of the original PRR 12th Street Car Shop buildings. A portion of 10th Avenue is visible in the foreground. (#10 of 14)

Title:  PRR 8676, AS-18AM, 1965
Description:  Derailment. Here is an original photo that I took at the site of a derailment in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 21 May 1965. At the far left (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #8676 and #8665. Both are AS-18AM's built by the American Locomotive Company and rated at 1,800 horsepower each. #8676 was built in March of 1958 and #8665 in February of 1958. They've just arrived to serve as "helpers" for a westbound passenger train due to arrive shortly. Visible in the center is PRR engine #8677, an AS-18AM built by ALCo in April of 1958 and rated at 1,800 horsepower. It's coupled to the "eastern" work train and steam-powered crane that are working on the derailed cars and locomotives of the eastbound freight train on the next track over. Visible at the right (L to R) are the two derailed locomotives, PRR engines #5631 and #8890. Both were built by ALCo and rated at 1,000 horsepower each. #5631 is an AS-10AM built in August of 1950 and #8890 is an AS-10 built in December of 1950. In the background are four of the original PRR 12th Street Car Shop buildings. That's 10th Avenue in the foreground. (#14 of 14)
