					| Description:  |
What is left of Rio Grande 4-8-4 1804. Note that the boiler & smokebox completely left the frame, leaving all the wheels still on the rails. Note that the tender appears undamaged. |

					The Day D&RGW 1804 Blew Up #4 |

					| Description:  |
The boiler and smokebox of 1804 where it came to rest. It cleared the locomotive part of 2-8-2 1207 and came down upon 1207's tender and Baggage car 734 coupled behind. It is impressive how cleanly the boiler left the frame of 1804. Even the cab, although mangled, is still attached. After all was cleaned up, 1804 was reassembled and returned to service. |

					| Description:  |
This sharp looking powerhouse gets a once over by a nattily clad individual while another gentleman climbs up to talk to the crew. Built by Bladwin in 1938, this "Western" type locomotive (Denver & Rio Grande Western preferred that label over the more common "Northern") exudes power and grace. Specifics - class M-68, 73" drivers, impressive 285 psi boiler pressure, 26x30" cylinders, engine weight of 479,360 lb, traqctive effort of 67,299 lb. All were scrapped by 1956. The date and locaiton were not given for this photo so arbitrary ones were used. G.M. Best photo |
