| Mid-Mountain. Here is an original photo that I took just West of Altoona, Pennsylvania, in mid-June of 1966. Shown here (R to L) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9687 and four more units whose road numbers are not recorded. All were built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. #9687 is an EF-15A built as an EH-15 in February of 1949, later regeared and reclassified as an EF-15A, and retired in October of 1967 after just 18 years of revenue service. This A-A-B-B-A set is pulling a fully-loaded mineral train down the Allegheny Mountains to the Eastbound Receiving Yard in Altoona. Wave to the Engineman! |
