Hazy. Here is an original photo that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in July of 1973. Shown here at the left are several Penn Central freight trains awaiting crews and motive power to pull them up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. Visible on the right is what used to be the Eastbound Receiving Yard. Given that some of the switches at the Yard's throat have been removed, chances are that the freight cars now stored here face uncertain fates. The two Floodlight Towers shown here were originally installed at the New York World's Fair in 1939! Photo taken from the 4th Street Footbridge. |
