PC 3148, GP40, 1973
Hazy. Here is an original telephoto view that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in July of 1973. Shown here (R to L) is Penn Central engine #3148 and another unit whose road number is not recorded. #3148 is a GP40 built by EMD in September of 1968 and rated at 3,000 horsepower. They're about to pass under the 4th Street Footbridge with a merchandise freight train on their way up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. Also visible at the right are several freight trains awaiting crews and motive power to pull them up the Allegheny Mountains, too. Wave to the Engine Crewmen!
