Museum Bound. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train near Pinecroft, Pennsylvania, on 26 June 1965. Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #2249, #2229, and #2206. All are EF-22's built by EMD in 2963 and rated at 2,250 horsepower each. They are pulling a 160-car eastbound mixed-cargo freight train with caboose #477243. This photo was taken at the Route 483 Bridge. Up to March of 2014, at least, #2206 was in active revenue service: first as Palouse River and Coulee City Railroad's "3004" in Walla Walla, Washington; later as Webb Asset Management Company's "3023" in Wallula, Washington. |

All are EF-22's built by GM-EMD and rated at 2,250 horsepower each. All were built in 1963: #2249 in May, #2229 in April, and #2206 in March. Relegated to the background are the venerable steam-era Water Tower and what's left of the East Altoona Roundhouse. For around fifty years, it had 50 stalls and its workers maintained steam locomotives 24/7/365! |
