PRR 2298, EF-25, 1965
Title:  PRR 2298, EF-25, 1965
Description:  17th Street. Here is an original photo that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 26 June 1965. Prominent here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #2298, #2306, and #2275. All are EF-25's built by GM-EMD and rated at 2,500 horsepower each. #2298 and #2306 were built in November of 1964, while #2275 was built in June of 1964. They're about to pass under Juniata's 17th Street Bridge with a 95-car iron ore train with cabin car #477467. Visible at the far right are the East Altoona Roundhouse (foreground) and the East Altoona Coaling Tipple (background). Otherwise, the photo shows dozens and dozens of deadlined locomotives (at the right) and rolling stock (at the left).

PRR 2240, EF-22, 1965
Title:  PRR 2240, EF-22, 1965
Description:  8th Street. Here is an original telephoto view that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 19 September 1965. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #2240, #2275, #2268, and #2528. #2240 is an EF-22 built by GM-EMD in May of 1963 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. #2275 and #2268 are EF-25's built by GM-EMD and rated at 2,500 horsepower each; #2275 was built in June of 1964 and #2268 was built in May of 1964. #2528 is a GF-25 built by General Electric in October of 1962 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. In this context, they're pulling a 70-car eastbound TrucTrain past the PRR's Juniata Erecting & Machine Shop (not visible on the right). This is a through train that will not stop in Altoona to change crews ~ unusual then, the norm now.
